14,000 Things To Be Happy About

14,000 things to be happy about by Barbra Ann Kipfer
from Amazon
"This book represents 40 years of recording all the little things that make me happy. Beginning in the sixth grade with a tiny spiritual notebook."

I absolutely love this tiny book, it's full of wisdom and is the perfect source of cure for those days where you aren't feeling your all. Through every page I found myself reminiscing through old related memories that I perhaps would have forgot about had I not been reminded. I only have every respect for Barbra Ann Kipfer that she was able to share it with us, a book I will be taking through life with me.

Some of my favourites
"Remembering when leaves were raked and jumped into, not put into plastic bags or giant vacuums."
"The gap in the dressing room curtain that can never be completely closed."
"The act of entering a room and forgetting why."
"Snow in March."
"Two seats together at a crowded movie."
"Toasted marshmallows."
"A romantic walk through the neighborhood to look at Christmas decorations."
"The times when you feel you're the only two people in the world."
"Adam's apple."
"Frost before November 23 auguring bad weather."
"Escaping from civilizations."
"Making lists."
"Romantic declarations written in the sand."

Christmas spirit

Christmas has always been my favourite time of year but if I'm honest, this year I haven't felt the Christmas spirit at all. After several trips to the Frankfurt market, Christmas parties and shopping, drinking my weight in mulled cider and gift swapping with the girls, it still doesn't feel like Christmas. As it's Christmas Eve I thought I'd focus on attempting to get myself into the Christmas spirit, of course this involves indulging in my boyfriend's moms homemade mince pies, watching some of the best Christmas films and trying out my new Starbucks coffee gift set. Let's face it, if this doesn't get me into the Christmas spirit, I don't know what will. But first, which film to watch?

Fashionista

I was inspired to try out this product by fashionista's range at superdrug after watching Dollybowbow's haul video. I went and picked myself up the baked eye shadow in cosmic, shade 1. I am extremely pleased with how soft the texture of the eye show is and how easy I've found it to apply. I think the price of £4.00 makes me love this product even more. The colours are all absolutely gorgeous and I am so looking forward to being able to test this out properly.

Pomanders

Pomanders are a fun, easy and cheap way of making your home look and smell festive. I make these every year because I know my family like receiving these. You can make them look however you want too by pricking single whole cloves into an orange (or other desired fruit).
Julian Graves whole cloves- Holland & Barrett. £2.09

Lavender Hot Chocolate: Winter Treats

Lavender Hot Chocolate
Since lavender is quite fragrant, adjust amount according to preference. For a creamier hot chocolate, a 1 to 1 ratio of dark to milk chocolate can be used. Makes 2 servings.
hot chocolate:
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 3 ounces dark chocolate (70% cacao)
  • 1 ounce milk chocolate
  • 1/4 teaspoon lavender buds
whipped cream:
  • 1/2 cup cold heavy whipping cream
  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract or seeds from 1/4 of a whole vanilla bean pod
  • 1/2 tablespoon granulated white sugar
For whipped cream, place cold cream, vanilla, and sugar into a cold mixing bowl. Beat the mixture with a whisk or mixer until stiff peaks form. keep refrigerated until ready for use.
For hot chocolate, heat milk and lavender over medium heat, whisking occasionally until the milk begins to simmer. Remove from heat and let lavender steep for 5 minutes. Strain lavender and return milk to saucepan. Over medium heat, add chocolate and mix until chocolate is melted and incorporated. Whisk milk mixture for 10-20 seconds until frothy. Pour into mugs or bowls and serve with a dollop of whipped cream.

18/11/11

Today I went shopping up town, as I've been in need of a cheeky little retail therapy for a while. Although, ended up buying nothing I intentionally wanted to get. Here's some of the things I brought

Purchased these earrings simply because I wanted a change of stud in my helix. £1.60- Forever 21

Saw this necklace and wasn't sure whether I loved it or hated it. I figured it'd look really cute over a chunky knit sweater. £3.90- Forever 21
I am a sucker for chunky earrings at the moment, and literally had to buy these when I saw them. £3.15- Forever 21
Totally a scarf person and saw one really similar in Urban Outfitters quite recently. When I saw the price of this I couldn't not buy it. Absolute bargain! £8.90- Forever 21
Again, I have been lusting over the Alexander Mcqueen version of this scarf forever! Although I cannot yet justify spending £245 on a scarf, so I went for the less nicer, more affordable. £3.99- Oasis market

I hope you enjoyed this post, let me know!

Rabbiting on

"We could rabbit on about our old favourite for hours. Let's just say it leaves your skin feeling soft and smooth, just like our original one."- The body shop.
If you like me, find your skin drying out quite quickly, it's always good to have a moisturiser that let's face it, works. This is the perfect product, it's thick texture leaves your skin feeling gorgeous. I will religiously use this product, I'm not sure I could fault it.
